About WMI
The Williston Music Intensive is a volunteer-led organization dedicated to helping pop instrumentalists & singers grow as performers. Our core program is a multi-day, full-band workshop covering performance essentials like listening, timekeeping, practice techniques, basic theory, & professionalism. We have also expanded to offer a singer's workshop (Mic Check), monthly open mics (Spotlight), & occasional networking mixers—giving musicians regular opportunities to learn, perform, & connect.
I'm Alma Cook, an alternative pop singer-songwriter & the creator of the Williston Music Intensive. I found my creative roots living in Chicago and LA, but after years of coming back and forth to Williston for oilfield work, I fell in love with North Dakota and am now here to stay. You can find work samples on my website—including my “5000 Candles” music video, which showcases the faces and stories of my friends in the Bakken. I'm addicted to bringing creative people together & helping performers see their potential come to life.
